The Palace Museum

No visit to Stone Town is complete without a visit to the Palace Museum, or Beit al-Sahel. Located on the seafront, between the House of Wonders and the Old Dispensary, the palace was built in the late 19th century to serve as a residence for the Sultan’s family. In 1994, it became a museum dedicated to showcasing the history and lives of the Zanzibari royal family. The museum features fascinating photographs, writings, clothing and furniture.
